2023 Centenary Match with Stanwick Parish Council
On the afternoon of Sunday 21 May, we welcomed representatives from our local Parish Council for a friendly game of bowls. It was the first time that the majority of the visitors had ever walked on a bowling green, and we were delighted that they all performed admirably. We hope to see some council members returning to the Club and joining in a regular roll up session
Visit to SBC by Year 6 Pupils from Stanwick Primary School
On 13 June we were delighted to welcome Eagles Class - Yr 6 pupils from Stanwick Primary School - to our Club. It was the first time that the children and accompanying teaching staff had tried lawn bowls. The group tackled the four different challenges which had been set up for them, with enthusiasm and a high degree of ability. After a break to cool down in our club house with squash, biscuits and ice lollies, we completed the fun afternoon with a spider competition and prize giving ceremony. We would be delighted if any of the promising young bowlers wanted to pay a return visit to the Club.
We are grateful to our friends at Islip Short Mat Bowls Club and Finedon Town Bowling Club for their kindness in lending us some smaller sized woods for the children's use.
SBC Centenary Gala 28 July 2023
All Stanwick Bowls Club members were keeping a close eye on weather forecasts in the build up to our cenetenary gala celebration which was scheduled for Friday 28 July. It was therefore a great relief that the event was able to proceed without interruption from rain.
We were delighted to welcome friends to our club from Ise BC, Swanspool BC, Geddington and Newton BC, Islip BC and Kettering Athletic BC.
The 20 Stanwick members competing in the event were arranged into 5 teams by Captain for the day - Garry. The 16 end match gave all players the opportunity to play 4 ends in each of the team positions.
The Club is tremendously grateful for the support of Stanwick Parish Council, without whose assistance the event would not have been such a success.
In addition to the visiting teams, we were delighted that our oldest club member, 97 year old Les Walker was able to join us for the afternoon. Les has been a member and supporter of our Club for 74 years and has served for extended periods as both Club Secretary and President. It was a pleasure to see Les looking so well and chatting with friends from both Stanwick and the visiting teams.
Two of the visiting teams finished with victories by a similar margin - Ise and Swanspool. On a count back of ends won, Swanspool were declared the overall winners having won 13 ends against the 11 of Ise.
The winning Stanwick team comprised Dennis M, John C, Graham K and Pauline.
